"For the past twenty years, I have immersed myself in the lives of others through photography, looking for core truths about how internalized messages of self-worth create social order. Ten years ago, I began taking photographs and video of my own father. I knew then that all my work about others came from a need to both make meaning and gain control of my own life. I wanted to physically have a family to hold onto. The images that I made have gained importance as my birth family continues to atrophy."
